One year ago today, we were blessed with the arrival of Owen Thomas Carroll. He was born on January 18, 2009 at 4;46 am weighing 7lbs 5 oz and was 21 inches long! He was perfect. I was one week past due, but Owen was definitely worth the wait. Our wildest imaginations could not have prepared us for that special miracle on that day. During our stay at the hospital, we had many visitors who came to meet Owen and see how we were doing. On the day we left the hospital, snow had fallen the night before, which was very appropriate given the fact that his departure outfit had the caption 'Let it snow'. It's hard to believe that one year ago today, this small, yet big addition changed our lives in the best possible way.
Holding my precious Owen!!! LOVE LOVE that sweet face!
Our family of three!! LOVE every bit of it!
Welcome to this world Owen!!! Testing out his lungs...
We arrived at home not knowing what to expect with this tiny individual. I guess it's like everyone always says, your intuition really does kick in. It's truly amazing how quickly you learn exactly what someone that small needs, even when they can't express it in words. Owen's unique personality began to develop quickly and it became clear to us very early that he would be a loving little boy who can give you smiles that melt your heart. He loves to laugh and often gets amused at the simplest things like hiding in his closet. He is very independent and wants to do things on his own, he is very strong as his pediatrician describes him as 'strong as an ox'.
Owen likes:to wave; point to his nose, ears, and hair; eat blueberries, cheese, yogurt, milk; take rides in his wagon; look at Elmo books, baths, play hide and seek, and peek a boo. His favorite song is tinkle tinkle little star...he points to the sky every time we sing it!
Owen dislikes most vegetables at the moment (we hide them in his yo baby yogurt...doesn't have a clue :-)) socks, most strangers, being told no, and rocked.
He can say dada, papa, bye-bye, ball (baa), Elmo (Eee), cat (ca,ca), and balloon (boon)
He now has four teeth and at his year-one check up, he was 21 lbs 13 oz and was 31 inches long.
This is his drawer...full of goodies!
Loves his bath!
and wagon rides too!
more wagon rides!
He loves to dance...this is him at his birthday party!! It's my party and I'll dance if I want to!
LOVES Elmo. His Aunt Kelley did a great job on making his birthday cake. He lOVED it! Thanks Kel!

Over the past year, we have watched this small, yet big addition change and grow up in so many different ways. Who would have known that one year ago today, our lives would be changed for the better? Who would have known that our world because of one small individual would feel so complete? We have experienced all the traditional milestones: rolling over, sitting up, crawling, pulling up, talking, and now trying to walk! Wow, it's amazing over the course of the year how much Owen has grown and changed. How when he left the hospital he could not do anything except eat and sleep...and now, he is his own little person, with a sweet, loving, and very independent personalty! Still the most amazing part, is how we have grown as parents and as a family. We love you Owen and look forward to all the wonderful memories that are yet to come! Happy 1st Birthday Little man!
