Hanging Out with Daddy

Owen loves when the weekends roll around!  That means that he gets to spend time with Daddy!  Over the last couple of years, Brent has taken Owen to the Lowe's Build and Grow projects many times.

This year, they have gone to several and they went to one this morning.  It was to build a classic fire truck.  Brent said he did such a great job and is really good at hammering the nails all the way in.  He had such a fun time.

Of course, each trip to Lowe's isn't complete until he has tried out several of the mowers!  So funny!  He was definitely Brent's sidekick today.

Afterwards, they trimmed some shrubbery around the house, washed both cars, and made a run to the grocery store to pick up things for Owen's choice of dinner tomorrow evening - chicken kabobs on the grill!  Glad they have so much fun together!

Big Boy Booster Seat

We finally did it! Owen has been asking (several times a day) when he was going to get a booster seat.  Truth be known, we have been pushing it off as long as we could because of safety, weight, and height regulations. This year when he started preschool, he started taking inventory on how many of his friends were in the booster seat vs "the baby seat". Most of his friends were in booster seats and it really bothered him and made him feel like a baby. So, I researched and found the perfect one that was reasonably priced and had high ratings and met all safety regulations.

On the way to pick up his booster seat!!! So excited!!!!

So very proud of his new seat! I love it too because he can buckle/unbuckle himself:) huge help!!!!

Gray was happy too:)

Sickness

When school starts back, unfortunately sickness usually follows.  We got hit the first week :(  Thank goodness it was not the stomach virus!  Owen ended up with strep and Gray had double ear infections!  We are thankful that it was short lived for Owen and Gray is getting better.  I somehow dodged this one.  Owen is not a fan of the doctor...I was really proud of him for handling it so well this time.  He does not like "the stick" as he calls it going down his throat to check for strep.

Trying to pass the time at the doctor's office with funny faces!

Sad faces at having to go to the doctor.

We brought a Highlight magazine for the waiting room.  At least we tried to make the best of it!

First Day of Preschool

Today was the first day of preschool for Gray and the last first day of preschool for Owen!  I thought all summer long I was ready for these kids to go to school....I was exhausted...my bag was empty...we had done activity after activity.  I felt like most of the summer I spent my time breaking up fights, keeping the boys off each other, and keeping Gray from getting into everything (he's very busy, that will be a separate post)!

Tote bags ready to go!
Well, the morning came and I was excited but kinda sad at the same time.  Sad because Owen will be in big school next year and he is really growing up...I was reminded of how far we have come.  I rememeber the first day of preschool - he hated it.  He cried and cried and I had to come get him early for the first month of school.  I thought he would NEVER stop crying when I dropped him off!  Since then, he has grown to love his school, teachers, friends, and loves to learn new things and to participate in activities.  I was reminded that this is the last year he will be there...next year will welcome a whole new chapter and a whole slew of new beginnings.  Until then, I will soak up every opportunity for this to be the best last year for him.

Ready to head out the door!
We are thankful to have such a wonderful preschool here in Kernersville and I am thankful that he gets the opportunity to be there.  I was equally excited for Gray, because he loves to play and be around other kids.  I was sad because that is my BABY!!! It's a true indication that he is growing up.  Gray has Owen's old teacher, Miss Shelly and she is such a blessing to us and the school.  She is wonderful to the children and Gray will love her.  He will go 2 days a week from 9-12.  I am excited also because this is the first time since Gray has been born that I actually have time to myself...I can clean, grocery shop, run errands...kid free!!! I'm excited because I can finally catch up on some household duties that are hanging over my shoulder!

Sitting beside Daddy at the Blessing of the Totes before heading to Gray's class.

Owen catching up with his friend Noah from last year's 3 year old class.
Both boys had a wonderful day.  Owen marched in his classroom fearless and loved his new teacher, Miss Jordan.  Gray cried some but made it the entire time.  He really enjoyed going outside and Miss Shelly said that he loved the painting activity that she did with them today. Painting on the first day with one years olds...she is a brave woman! ha
Gray's painting activity from today.
When I picked the boys up I took then to Chick-Fil-A to celebrate a first awesome day!!! So proud of my boys!!!

The Night Before Preschool

Twas the night before our last year in preschool. This time next year, we will be getting ready for big school!!!! Oh my, how the last 4 1/2 years have flown by! Here's to a wonderful last year in preschool!!! Owen, I hope you have a year full of fun, meeting new friends, and lots of learning new things to help prepare you for Kindergarten! Mommy and Daddy love you lots!!!

Silly boy in Target today with mommy.

Special note his teachers gave his class at open house.

Super cute! You sprinkle magic confetti underneath their pillow case for promises of a wonderful year! Love it!!!!

Preschool Open House

Tonight, we went to open house for BOTH of the boys....yes, my baby is starting preschool!!! It's so hard to believe, but it will be good for him and good for me to catch a break to get some things done. Owen will be in the K4 class going Monday thru Thursday from 9-12 and Gray will go on Tuesday and Thursdays from 9-12.

I am excited and looking forward to Owen's last year in preschool and Gray's first.  I love our preschool and all of the teachers.  It is an amazing place and I am thankful that my kids have the opportunity to go there.

Owen loves his teacher Miss Jordan, and is excited about all of the fun activities they will be doing this year...and Gray...doesn't have a clue what's getting ready to occur...I'm sure he will grow to love it.  He's a mommy's boy so I speculate there will be some tears involved in the beginning.

Open house was a huge success and both boys really liked their rooms and teachers. Here's to a great year full of happiness and success!

Arts and Crafts

Owen loves to do arts and crafts. He often refers to them as activities..."mommy I am ready to do an activity" as he says.  He loves to read, write, practice in his P-K book, and do any craft that involves glue, paint, scissors, play dough, etc.

On most days, I have something set out and ready for him to do.  He loves it and I am thankful that he expresses so much interest in learning and doing hands on activities.

I love doing these activities with him and coming up with new ideas.  Thank goodness for Pinterest...that is such an awesome tool that is full of so many great ideas.
